TYSNY's 200 HOUR TEACHER TRAINING
Grounded in the Tradition of Sri T Krishnamacharya, the "Grandfather of Modern Yoga,"
and his Son, TKV Desikachar
200 hr Foundational Teacher Training - starting JANUARY 2024
INQUIRE NOW!
At our school, we are offering the unique, holistic yoga teachings of Krishnamacharya and his son, TKV Desikachar. Rarely do you find a teacher training where the teachings come from a direct tradition. Our link to this tradition is Guta Hedewig, the Director of Teacher Training, student of TKV Desikachar, Certified Yoga Therapist C-IAYT, Yoga Teacher in the Krishnamacharya Tradition and a Yoga Alliance E-RYT 500. We further maintain the link to our lineage by inviting highly respected Guest Teachers who are long time students of TKV Desikachar and the tradition: Chase Bossart; Dr. Dolphi Wertenbaker; and Fran Ubertini.
Our teacher trainings are rigorous as they give our trainees the full picture of the serious and involved practice and study of Yoga in all its aspects. The beautiful underlying idea of Krishnamacharya/Desikachar's teachings is that each student needs to be addressed exactly where they are at, their needs are to be met and their practice needs to be individualized. Come and join this transformative experience! |
200 Hour Teacher Training
What you will learn:
In our 200 hr program you will be given a foundational overview of yoga in the Tradition of T. Krishnamacharya and his son, TKV Desikachar. It is one of only a handful of trainings in this country offering these valuable holistic teachings. You will learn techniques of posture, breathing, chanting and meditation as well as study in-depth the philosophy underlying these techniques. This will allow you to deepen your own practice and start teaching yoga to others with clarity and confidence.
PLEASE NOTE: This training can ALSO address students interested in the Desikachar/Krishnamacharya Tradition who have already been teaching for a while, and who would like to deepen their studies by adding this Traditional Approach to the 200 hr training they have previously completed. In this case, the 200 hours can be applied towards a 500 hr certification, if desired.

FAQ
How will the training be offered, in-person or online?
We are offering the training in-person at our Manhattan location. We will be strictly following CDC guidelines for COVID safety. If you are from out-of-town or prefer to take the training hybrid or fully online, we can accommodate this too. In that case, some additional mentoring sessions can be offered, as needed (included in the price of the tuition). All sessions will also be recorded for review.
Will I be able to teach after my 200 hour Training?
Yes! From the first day on you will learn how to teach and gain confidence in teaching group classes. If you are looking towards a more full time teaching career and immersion in yoga, we very much encourage our trainees to continue on to our 500 hr Advanced Training to refine their understanding of yoga and their teaching skills.
What if I don't want to teach?
Even though everyone will learn how to teach during the training, oftentimes students take the 200 hour training purely for their own immersion in all aspects of yoga. We very much support this approach!
Is the Teacher Training registered with Yoga Alliance?
Yes. Both our 200 hour and Advanced 500 hour Trainings are registered with Yoga Alliance.
What if I have to miss some hours of the Training?
Ideally, you will not miss any training hours. If you have to miss, arrangements need to be made with the program director, preferably ahead of time. You can always participate remotely; and we are video recording all training sessions.
What are the admission requirements?
No matter what your previous studies in yoga have been, we are happy to accept anyone into the 200 hour Teacher Training who is ready to commit to the serious study of yoga in all its aspects: Asana (Postures), Pranayama (Breathing Techniques), Chanting, Meditation, Philosophy.
Will I have personal guidance during the training?
Yes! It is one of our highest concerns to ensure that every student receives individual attention and guidance throughout the training. Each student has Mentoring Sessions for individual support and to receive and periodically update their Personalized Home Practice. And our trainees are highly supervised by our faculty in their studies.
If I am already teaching yoga and have completed a 200 or 500 hour training previously, how would this Traditional Foundational Training help me?
The Traditional Teachings you will encounter here are quite distinct from what most 200/500 hour trainings offer. Rather than a generalized approach to teaching group asana classes, you will learn the specific underlying purpose and function of each technique (asana, pranayama, meditation, chanting, nyasa, bhavana) and how to specifically apply it to a student's very individual needs and requirements. This will allow you to be a much more effective teacher in both group and especially also one-on-one settings. It is a holistic approach, and a step in the direction towards Yoga Therapy.

"I just know this training has given me a yoga I never expected or anticipated. Yoga is now an incredibly profound experience of deep self connection and I have no idea if there is a destination or if it is purely about the exploration. Wherever it leads, I am just so grateful to be having this journey into myself."
