At our school, we are offering the unique, holistic yoga teachings of Krishnamacharya and his son, TKV Desikachar. Rarely do you find a teacher training where the teachings come from a direct tradition. Our link to this tradition is Guta Hedewig, the Director of Teacher Training, student of TKV Desikachar, Certified Yoga Therapist C-IAYT, Yoga Teacher in the Krishnamacharya Tradition, and a Yoga Alliance E-RYT 500. We further maintain the link to our lineage by inviting highly respected Guest Teachers who are long time students of TKV Desikachar and the tradition: Chase Bossart; Dr. Dolphi Wertenbaker; and Fran Ubertini.
Our teacher trainings are rigorous as they give our trainees the full picture of the serious and involved practice and study of Yoga in all its aspects. The beautiful underlying idea of Krishnamacharya/Desikachar's teachings is that each student needs to be addressed exactly where they are at, their needs are to be met and their practice needs to be individualized. Come and join this transformative experience!

100 Hour  ADVANCED Teacher  Training

What you will learn:

The 100 Hour Advanced Training builds directly on our comprehensive 200 program in the tradition of TKV Desikachar and takes the teachings to a deeper level of practice, integration and ultimately ability to refine one’s teaching to suit the student’s individual needs. In this training, emphasis is placed on practical application, on refinement of techniques (asana, pranayama, chanting, meditation, nyasa, bhavana), on becoming a committed and confident practitioner and teacher of yoga.

The Main Points of Focus of this Training are Threefold:

- A review, further explication and deeper practical understanding of the materials presented in the 200 hr training.

- An Introduction to Creating Individualized Home Practices. This is a complex process and quite distinct from group class planning and teaching and will be presented in theory and on-site practice with volunteer students. It is an essential first step in the direction of using yoga therapeutically.

- Layering of different modalities. How to enhance the primary direction or function of a technique by layering it with another (for example, moving while chanting; moving while employing breathing ratios; breathing with appropriate visualization and nyasa; etc.)

Graduates of our Advanced 500 hr Training Can Expect To Gain:

•    An understanding of the Energetic Qualities (brahmana, langhana, samana) behind the asana/pranayama/meditation/chanting practices, and how to utilize them in Course Planning.

•    Opportunity to practice teaching and receive constructive feedback from senior teachers from the onset of the training

•    A thorough understanding of how to individualize a practice of asana, pranayama, meditation and chanting for the individual student’s needs: the ability to assess a student and create an individualized yoga practice for them

•    Knowledge of the Philosophical Foundations of Yoga, including the additional study of the Yoga Sutra Pada-s 3 and 4, the Bhagavad Gita, Introduction to Indian Philosophy and the 6 Darhana-s, Principal Upanisads, and other Traditional Texts

FAQ

Why Would I Need a 500 Hour Certification if I Have my 200 Hour Certification?
We consider 200 hr Teacher Trainings foundational trainings that are a very important first step in a life long learning process. Our Advanced 100 hr Training builds on this basic training and focuses on practical application and the refinement of your teaching skills to a point where you can take into consideration a student’s specific needs and individualize your teaching according to those requirements. You will learn how to create Individualized One-on-One practices. Few teachers have this skill. A 300 hr certification from a reputable training will not only give you greater teaching skills, it will also make you stand out and give you better teaching opportunities, working in varied settings with different kinds of populations.

How will the training be offered, in-person or online?
We are offering the training in-person at our Manhattan location. If you are from out-of-town or prefer to take the training hybrid or fully online, we can accommodate this too. In that case, some additional mentoring sessions can be offered, as needed, included in the price of the tuition. All sessions will also be recorded for review.

Do I Have to Be Actively Teaching  Already to Take the 100 Hour Advanced Training?
You do not have to be a teacher before starting training, but we expect everyone enrolled in this 100 hr program to start teaching throughout the training in order to apply what you’ve learned.

Is the Teacher Training Registered with Yoga Alliance?
Upon successful completion, you will receive a 300 hr TYSNY certification. Both our 200 and Advanced 300 Hour Trainings are registered with Yoga Alliance.

What if I Have to Miss some Hours of the Training?
Ideally, you will not miss any training hours. If you have to miss some hours, due to an emergency, arrangements need to be made with the program director, preferably ahead of time. You can always participate remotely; and we are video recording all training sessions.

What are the Admission Requirements?
In order to participate in our Advanced 100 Hour Training, you will need a prior 200 hour or 500 hour certification from The Yoga School NY.

Will I Have Personal Guidance During the Training?
Yes! It is one of our highest concerns to ensure that every student receives individual attention and guidance throughout the training. Our trainees are highly supervised by our faculty in their studies. And each student receives Mentoring Sessions for individual guidance and to establish and periodically update an Individualized Home Practice.
